Dorinda Hafner.....BBC TV
Dorinda Hafner is an incredibly cheerful woman who takes Julia Child's love for food to the next level. Hafner travels the globe, following the African Diaspora (Diaspora...fancy word for diffusion of an ethnic group of people into other geographical locations.) She hangs out with people who live in shacks or huts as well as people who dwell in apartment complexes. Her enthusiasm for good food breaks down walls and barriers, passing through different cultures while finding a common thread throughout. We all like to eat . I was lucky enough to watch this program produced by the BBC in England. It was a treat to receive a cultural and culinary history lesson while getting good recipe's to boot. Here is hoping that PBS will broadcast it far and wide throughout the U.S. Read about her at the
Culture Cafe.

Have you heard of Major Taylor? Watch the summer Olympics or the Tour D' France, and it's easy to assume that cycling never crosses the colour line at the elite level. Major Taylor zipped across that line before many of us were even born. If you don't believe me, just check out that old bike he's perched upon. Major Taylor was an enthusiastic cyclist in the late 1900's. And just when you think blacks only played basketball! Learn more about Major Taylor in our next issue.
